Thirteen of the fourteen cuts on this third instalment of SkyTop's ninth-anniversary series sit between 120 and 124 BPM, so the booth work here isn't about matching tempos — it's about deciding where each piece belongs. The label is home base for Alexey Sonar — also co-owner of Intricate Records and host of the weekly SkyTop radio show — and these birthday compilations are a running tradition, with editions documented back to the fourth anniversary. Part 3 reads less like a showcase and more like a record bag sorted by hours of the night.
The warm-up comes pre-solved by the 120 BPM trio: NUFECTS' 'A Wonder Trip' in B minor, Sense IS' 'Do You Dream' — at 7:31 the longest cut on the record, built for stretching the opening without rushing — and Ver-dikt and Andy Dav's 'In the Dark' in its instrumental version, a D minor canvas for layering.
D minor and F major, the record's highway
The 122-123 core hides a harmonic gift: five tracks move between D minor and F major, relative keys that chain without friction. 'Lost Away', 'Penthouse Tree' with moniloki, Taleman's 'Habitat', the aforementioned 'In the Dark' and 'Sandy Dessert' — Sonar's own contribution, already at 124 — add up to nearly half an hour of mixing inside the same harmonic field. Another transition the record leaves ready-made: NAASA's 'Little Dream' in A minor into Taleman's remix of 'Hunter House' in C major, its exact relative.
For the upper stretch there are Fon.Leman and Mona Mi's 'Lanka' and 'Sandy Dessert' itself, both at 124. The wildcard is pumbum's 'Deep Water': 128 BPM, E-flat minor and breaks, the only cut that abandons the four-on-the-floor. Save it to snap the set's inertia or to sign off the night. It's no accident that pumbum is the record's most repeated name — an original cut, a remix of Max Wexem's 'Secret' and a credit on 'Penthouse Tree': when a label celebrates nine years by letting its roster remix itself, the compilation stops being a catalogue and becomes a family photo that, conveniently, mixes itself.
