Alex Micca - Lost In Time Chart

Overview

Twelve cuts locked between 134 and 138 BPM, and a thirteenth that reads 71 on the sheet: this Alex Micca selection is best read through that fracture. Everything before 'Nada Existe' is big-hour techno, and the closer's title —signed by Dani Sbert, the only cut tagged raw/deep/hypnotic— answers the 'Lost in Time' that opens the chart: from being lost in time to nothing existing at all.

The second contrast is gravitational. Five of the thirteen tracks orbit IbogaTech, a Denmark-based label where Micca releases 'Voltage' and, alongside Carolina and Sole Llorente, 'Lost in Time'; the other eight arrive from eight different imprints, one each. The chart literally has a centre and a periphery. It also fits the profile his Beatport page paints of Micca himself: a producer bridging old-school and modern techno, with live sets built on drum machines, synthesizers and samplers.

Mirrors inside the chart

• Original versus remix: 'Lost in Time' appears twice in Eb Major, and the Rodri XXX remix stretches the original by exactly one minute, from 5:42 to 6:42; 'Voltage' goes the other way, with Innervoix trimming five seconds while keeping the F Major pulse intact.
• Long versus short: Rein (NL)'s 'Meet her at the Warehouse' is the longest cut here (6:50), while YellowHeads squeeze the peak-mode take of 'Mind Patterns' into 5:13, the briefest running time of the lot.
• Major versus minor: nine major keys against four minors; for peak-time techno, this collection smiles far more than it snarls.

Then comes the ending. Dani Sbert —a Mallorcan with over 500 Beatport top-100 entries to his name, per his biography, and tracks played by Richie Hawtin and Dubfire— signs the one moment where the chart breathes at half speed. That the slowest step belongs to the most seasoned name hardly feels accidental: here, the extremes also measure experience.
