Read the titles: 'Wrecked Sun - 160Bpm', 'Kronika 158 Bpm', 'Liquid Poison - 157 Bpm', 'Digital Dissident 153Bpm'. On 'Acantharians', eight of the ten cuts carry their tempo printed right in the name, and read in order they draw a descending ladder from 160 down to 153 BPM. Rarely does a tracklist confess its function so openly: this is not a batch of loose singles but a sequenced night set, and that booth-level honesty already says plenty about who is behind it.
Transubtil Records operates out of Marseille and was not born as a business but as the extension of a collective: the Transubtil association, long active in the city's psytrance scene, which got the label off the ground through a KissKissBankBank crowdfunding campaign. That communal origin shows in how the record is built. Kanaloa handles the selection and does not stop at compiling — he appears inside with 'Twisted Cerebro' alongside anchronorium. Mastering comes from the label's own Ts Studio, and four of the ten cuts are two-name collaborations: Sinner with Wode, Hydra-E with Balku, Killawatt with Creepy Deep. Nobody here drops a track and vanishes; the work happens as a network.
The label's own Bandcamp frames the concept — a journey through the night, from twilight to dark psytrance — and the architecture delivers on it. Opsuruus opens with 'Inner Orbit' in F major, the only cut with no number in its title, a threshold before 'Wrecked Sun' ignites the upper range; from there the descent is gradual until Daksinamurti's 'Digital Dissident' closes the record. The insistence on G major stands out: five of the ten cuts share it, closer included — an unusual degree of harmonic coherence for a dark and forest compilation. And the longest cut, La Marquise's 'Its Not a Joke' (9:36), acts as the central plateau where the album takes its time.
As a portrait of a label, 'Acantharians' is transparent: Transubtil is not building a roster of stars, it is documenting a scene that collaborates, compiles from within and masters at home. The tempo ladder is its manifesto.
