Deeper Roots, Vol. 18: Deepersense Music Sharpens Its Sonic Compass
Deepersense Music returns with the eighteenth installment of its Deeper Roots series, a four-track compilation that maps with precision the sonic territory the label has been cultivating for years: hypnotic trance, long-form progressive house, and textures built for introspection rather than peak-hour frenzy. Volume 18 sits comfortably within the editorial identity that has made Deepersense a go-to reference for underground devotees of the more contemplative variety.
Opening duties fall to Darkskye with Deep Orbit, six minutes and sixteen seconds in Eb Major at 125 BPM operating firmly in the Raw / Deep / Hypnotic Trance space. The track rolls out dense analogue synthesis layers, an enveloping pad that orbits around a dry, precise kick, and a spectral melody that fades in and out like a lost radio signal in deep space. It is a sober, effective statement of intent.
Next comes Slandry Gatse with The Sun Delight, seven minutes of progressive house in G minor at 126 BPM flowing with organic fluidity. Filter modulations are gradual, almost geological, and a pulsing bassline builds tension without rushing. The tonal contrast with the opener — shifting from Eb Major to G minor — creates a natural transition that rewards listening as a continuous experience.
The compilation's high point arrives with Graham Lloris's remix of Mathov's Darkness Resurge, which at nearly nine minutes is the most ambitious cut on the volume. Lloris reinterprets the source material in G minor at 124 BPM, expanding every element: the bass claims its own voice, arpeggios engage in layered dialogue, and the central breakdown becomes a near-cinematic moment. A rereading that surpasses the original in emotional density.
Closing the EP is NovaForma with the remix of CJ Art's Mystifying Phenomenon, eight minutes in Eb Major at 127 BPM that bring the tonal arc initiated by Darkskye full circle. The result is energetic within progressive house parameters, driven by an ascending arpeggio that dominates the structure and a hi-hat roll that intelligently pushes toward the climax.
