It opens with 'Back To Black': Amy Winehouse's voice set on a dancefloor chassis, and inside four minutes the Jet Boot Jack method is already clear — Adriel Leff, a disco house remix specialist with, per his Mastermix producer profile, more number ones on Hypeddit's disco chart than any other artist — keep the vocal, rebuild everything around it. From there the record chains Basement Jaxx's 'Do Your Thing' into Estelle and Kanye West's 'American Boy', two cuts born for the floor that only get an extra push here.
The first landmark arrives at track four: the mash-up crossing 'So Many Times' by Gadjo with Alexandra Prince into Earth, Wind & Fire's 'Boogie Wonderland', the collision that best sums up the whole idea — recognisable voices, brand-new engine. The middle stretch keeps the pulse with Hardsoul and Ron Carroll's 'Back Together' and Justin Timberlake's 'Rock Your Body' — at 4:19 the longest cut of the set — until MGMT's 'Kids' throws in the only detour: the piece that earns the release its indietronica tag and, perhaps because it is the outsider, the most striking moment of the journey.
A mirror-image ending
Nelly's 'Hot In Herre' opens the final stretch, Spiller and Sophie Ellis-Bextor's 'Groovejet (If This Ain't Love)' — the shortest cut at 3:22 — waves hello and slips away, and the finale repeats the trick of track four: another mash-up, Tweet's 'Boogie 2Nite' against G Club's 'Guitarra G'. Opening with a lone remix and closing with a two-song collision hardly feels accidental: the record ends where its idea is most literal.
One contextual note: the running order is alphabetical by artist, yet it still flows like a set — partly because these Edit versions (Mastermix, the DJ store that carries Leff's exclusive material, offers an Extended edition in parallel) are trimmed for fast-rotation sets, everything living between 3:22 and 4:19. Coming from someone who has supported The Chemical Brothers and played for Hed Kandi and Ministry Of Sound, that grasp of dancefloor timing is no accident.
