Few warm-up weapons are as reliable as Objekt's 'Theme from Q': 7:20 at 123 BPM in G minor, TJ Hertz's tribute to Berlin's long-gone Basement Q, crowned best track of 2017 by Mixmag. The same take-off zone (122-126) holds the swing of 'Happiness' by Krafty Kuts and A Skillz, plus the longest cut of the pack: Radio Slave's Revenge Remix of Laurent Garnier and Chambray's 'Feelin' Good', 7:29 built to lock in the groove without burning energy. Even 'Middle Finger' — half of the debut single Skrillex and Boys Noize launched Dog Blood with in 2012 — works here as an aggressive opener at 124.

The G major ramp

The most useful detail for harmonic mixers: five cuts in G major draw an almost perfect tempo staircase. From 'Feelin' Good' (126) you climb to the Stanton Warriors remix of Ruby Goe's 'Beat Breaking Boy' (130), then to 'Handz Up' or 'Jungle Music' (132), and cap it with Ragga Twins' 'Rougher Than Them' at 138. The Stantons — Dominic Butler and Mark Yardley, raised on Bristol's scene and running the Punks label since 2003 — appear three times in the selection and shore up exactly that 130-132 mid-range where most of the chart lives.

For peak time there is ammunition between 136 and 142: Redlight and NOTION's 'GET OUT MY HEAD' at 138, 'New Hope' at 140 and the 2:59 whipcrack that is Mary Droppinz and Neumonic's 'What?' at 142, perfect as a quick jab before pulling back. And don't skip the seven cuts between 66 and 100 BPM — Zeds Dead's 'Rumble in the Jungle', 'Night Blue', 'Pig' — they are not filler but pressure valves, half-tempo tools to reset the floor or close the night.
