On 'Spacedisco Records Summer 26' the tempo barely moves — everything lives between 125 and 128 BPM — and yet the record travels. The landscape is drawn by the keys: five cuts in minor, five in major, laid out with a symmetry that hardly feels accidental. It opens in G minor with Ron H's 'One Time' and closes in Gb minor with 'Head To Toe': ten cuts later, the compilation lands half a step below where it took off, like a summer fading out slowly.
Between those two minor poles, the middle is the bright zone. Dan Corco's 'Time To Party' (Bb major, the shortest cut at 5:19) and The Cube Guys' 'Funkee Beatz' (Ab major) open the first clearing. Italians Roberto Intrallazzi and Luca Provera have been running the project since 2005, and Intrallazzi comes from F.P.I. Project, one of the first house acts to come out of Italy: their jackin here sounds like pure craft. The shade returns with the C minor of Hatiras' 'Disco Dancin'' and dissolves into the G major of Weitner's 'Disco's Revenge', which at 6:51 is the cut that takes its time most generously.
There is also a mirror game at play: G minor and Bb major, F minor and Ab major, Gb minor and A major are relative pairs, so much of the record orbits the same harmonic centres seen either from the light or from the shadow. The final stretch alternates exactly that: 'The Swing' in F minor, 'Something's Changed' in A major, 'Martin Dance' in F major and 'Head To Toe' in Gb minor.
That Hatiras signs three of the ten cuts is no surprise: the Canadian producer, a two-time Juno winner and the man behind 'Spaced Invader', a UK top ten back in the day, has been running Spacedisco since 2016, a Canadian label devoted to disco-veined house. The genre here barely shifts — eight jackin cuts, two house — but what shifts, piece by piece, is the emotional temperature. Which is exactly what a well-drawn tonal map is for.
