In a thirty-track chart where almost no name repeats, the exception tells the whole story: Fred Everything shows up twice. First he signs 'Good Night' with Atjazz on Lazy Days Music, the label the Montreal producer founded in 2005 and one Atjazz himself had already recorded for; less a collaboration than a family reunion. Then he returns as a rebuilder: his 'Re-Creation' of Metro's 'Brownstone Express' for Nu Groove stretches the cut to 7:18 at 121 BPM, the craft of someone with a quarter century and over 250 releases behind him.
The other pillar is Session Victim. Hauke Freer and Matthias Reiling, a duo formed in Lüneburg in 2007, built their reputation sampling vintage soul, funk and jazz, and here they deliver the Modem Mix of 'Hey, Activate!' with Kenneth Scott for Rhythm Section International: 124 BPM in C minor, placed right at the front door of the sequence.
Then comes the anomaly. Space Ghost is Sudi Wachspress, an Oakland producer with several albums on Denmark's Tartelet and a sound walking in Larry Heard's wake; his Dance Mix of 'Emotional Healer' drops to 90 BPM while everything else lives between 120 and 137. It is the one moment the selection breathes outside club tempo.
The supporting cast is no filler either:
- Dam Swindle rewrites Ossie's 'Are U Still Smiling?' for Heist, the only cut in the set tagged as straight-up house.
- TEED lands in Jex Opolis' hands on 'Desire', pushed to 130 BPM in F minor.
- Art Department dispatches 'Jazz Hours' on Rawax in 4:10, while Justin Harris takes nine full minutes for 'Who Needs Rescuing', the longest cut on the program.
Thirty tracks, twenty-nine labels — only Permanent Vacation repeats — and a single name with a double presence. When the names carry as much weight as the groove, the selection tells its own story.
