Five cuts, one exact staircase: 126, 128, 128, 130, 130. 'Fresh Cuts Vol. 4' arrives sequenced the way a cautious DJ would build an hour, and there is a reason: Dobar House started in Zagreb in 2016 as a club night run by Tom Bug, one of Croatia's most in-demand house DJs, and only became a label in 2018. The booth came before the catalogue, and this volume shows it.
The opener picks itself. Fossillune's 'Deep Addiction' —126 BPM, A-flat minor— is pure warm-up material: deep house with six minutes of room to breathe while the floor fills. The 128 block works as a bridge: 'Jimbo' by Britanny Boys, the shortest cut here (5:01), is the quick tool for nudging the energy up a notch, while Evan Rhodes' 'Go Back' restores depth without giving back tempo — useful when the room is not ready for the punch yet.
The two 130s and how to get there
The peak sits at the end: 'C'est La House' —the record's only collaboration, Mateo Fritz with Vassalo (FR), and its longest cut at 6:16— and Puhska's 'Get Funky', closing in F minor. There are concrete harmonic routes in:
- 'Jimbo' and 'C'est La House' share D minor: you can jump from 128 to 130 with no tonal friction if the night calls for an early peak.
- 'Go Back' (B-flat minor) blends naturally into 'Get Funky' (F minor), neighbouring keys on the harmonic wheel.
- The published running order also works as-is: no jump exceeds 2 BPM.
The whole volume lives in minor keys, and that uniform palette is its best late-night argument: you can drop in and out of these five cuts without breaking the mood. The names carry no loud CVs, but they fit the Croatian label's stated remit —deep house through tech house to disco— and the logic of a series literally called fresh cuts: working material built for the floor rather than the press release.
