It's no accident that 'The People' opens this selection. Demuir, who signs the cut with Pinto (NYC) for Jack City Records, carries as much authority in this sound as anyone: the Toronto producer was named Traxsource's number one jackin producer in 2015 and 2016, has released on imprints like Classic Music Company and Hot Creations, and serves as Beatport's jackin house curator, a role created when the genre got its own category on the store. His fingerprints show up twice here, since Purveyor Underground, the label he founded in 2017, lands James Curd's remix of Denats' 'To Be Bigger'.
The other heavyweight is Canadian too. Hatiras, a two-time Juno Award winner and the man behind 'Spaced Invader' — the Defected release that went UK top ten at the turn of the millennium — brings 'Something's Changed' on Spacedisco Records, the label he started in 2016 to hand the 90s sound of his early days to a new generation. And from the American West Coast, DJ Mes — founder of Guesthouse Music in Oakland back in 2004 and a key figure in jackin's return to the underground's front line — delivers 'Knockin'', six and a half minutes of groove at 125 BPM.
Among the twenty names there's more movement than meets the eye: Herve hands 'Hands On Your Knees' over to the Gettoblaster & Casio Club remix, Jazzmik plays both sides — editing DJ Rain's 'The Weapon' and signing 'Kiss Him' under his own name on Rhythm Movement Music — and Luca Guerrieri's remix for Turntables Night Fever is, at 7:09, the longest cut of the lot.
The most telling stat is structural: twenty tracks, twenty different labels, none repeated. With a tight 124-130 BPM band, what separates one cut from the next isn't energy but the signature of whoever made it. In a genre that lives on swing and samples, this list reads like a census: who's who in jackin house heading into festival season.
