There is a clue to what Nothing But is in this volume's arithmetic: 16 of its 25 cuts sit between 124 and 125 BPM. That razor-thin band is no accident; it is editorial policy. The 'Jackin' Beats' series reaches its seventeenth instalment here while its sibling 'Pure Jackin' House' is already up to 27, and that release rate only holds with a clear formula: swing, filters, bouncing bass and functional groove that never breaks the session.
Behind the catalogue there is structure, not romance. Nothing But is the compilation imprint of LW Recordings, a division of Label Worx, the UK label-services company based in Kingston upon Hull and operating since 2007; the imprint itself started in 2014. That explains the model: genre-themed series, numbered volumes and a pool of producers rotating between them.
The rotation shows in this disc's names. 4Peace, Turntables Night Fever and STI Project appeared on 'Pure Jackin' House Vol. 27'; Depth Phunk, Garruto and Oggie B passed through instalment 13 of that same series; Rich Martinez and Hiast through 22. Here Kenny Bizzarro signs twice with 'Filter Mood' and 'What You Do To Me', both locked at 125. Consistency is not a trait of this label: it is the product.
Inside the mould there is room to breathe. Rawkey's 'Break The House Down' spikes to 132, the only concession to aggressive peak time; Giman's 'Que Bueno' and the closer — Jason Hodges' instrumental rework of Andy Riley's 'Minute By Minute' — drop to 120 and let the record land softly. 4Peace's 'Echoes Of Chi', six and a half minutes of groove, nods to Chicago from its title without saying it out loud. A compilation label is judged as much by what it filters out as by what it lets in, and the criterion here is transparent: nothing below booth standard, nothing that throws the floor. That is the identity, worn without apology.
