Neither Deekline nor Ed Solo appear anywhere on 'Selecta', and that absence is precisely the point. Jungle Cakes — the London label Deekline launched in 2009, its reputation cemented by the 'Welcome To The Jungle' compilations mixed with Ed Solo and Serial Killaz — uses this one for something else: a roll call of the bench. Twenty-two tracks, a roster of mostly emerging names, and one constant: the ragga jungle DNA the catalogue has cultivated from day one.
The titles alone give the house away: 'Babylon', 'Ganja Man', 'Bad Man Sound', 'Rise Up', 'Walk With The Spirit'. Soundsystem vocabulary is still the label's official language, and the credited MCs — Dread MC, Entice MC, Spyda Jr — confirm that the voice matters as much as the bassline here. Almost everything runs at 87-89 BPM (the classic ~175 written at half time), with two detours to 109 — Rosco's 'I've Got A Feeling' and The Force's 'Ganja Man' — and a breather at 65 on 'Bad Man Sound'. Minor keys almost across the board, F minor showing up on five tracks: functional darkness, not melancholy.
The repeated names sketch the label too. PRVAIL appears on three different collaborations, The Force and PLANK (MT) pull double shifts, and Sola chains the first two slots: first with the 2026 VIP of 'We No Care' alongside Dread MC and Exile DNB — the only cut that isn't an original mix — then with 'Lost Translation'. Jungle Cakes doesn't sign loose tracks; it incubates relationships. At the extremes, Disorder_AT's 'Wicked Man' stretches the formula to 5:18 while Bassilar Membrane's 'Detonation' compresses it under three minutes, before 'Walk With The Spirit' closes posse-cut style, four names sharing the credit.
If the 'Welcome To The Jungle' series was the veterans' photo album, 'Selecta' is proof the house has a next generation. And it sounds like the label knows it.
